Help Afghan Women Tell Their Stories!

Online Donations to the Afghan Women’s Writing Project will purchase laptop computers and Internet access for female Afghan writers.

Afghan women are frequently barred from Internet cafés. Even when they are allowed admittance in the company of a male relative, our writers often draw unwelcome attention, making it too dangerous for them to use an Internet café to send their work to AWWP.

To make it easier and less risky for our Afghan writers, we would like to provide each of them with a laptop and thumb-drive to free them to work in any area they find secure. Our writers can then ask a sympathetic male relative to take the thumb-drive to an Internet café and send us their work. A $20 donation will buy a thumb-drive and $500 will buy a laptop. No contribution is too small.

Our writers offer deep thanks, as do their teachers, a renowned group of female American authors, poets, memoirists, journalists and university professors who donate their time and talent to this project.

ce all our women have laptops, donated funds will go toward setting up Afghanistan’s first women’s only Internet cafe, run locally by SOLA, so that women writers in our program and beyond can continue to have a voice.
